What is a supervised exchange?
Children are exchanged between separated/divorced parents, or other adults who are allowed to have time with them. The “drop off” parent arrives and sign in, leaving the child(ren) with staff. The “pick up” parent arrives 15 minutes later and signs in to take the child(ren) with them. Staff supervises and interacts with child(ren) during the transition from one adult to the other.
What is Supervised Parenting Time?
Supervised parenting time takes place when the Court determines a need for supervision of a visit between parent and child(ren). Trained staff are present to observe and factually document what occurs during the visit and to ensure that all family members are safe. The “drop off” parent brings the child(ren) to the visit and leaves. The “visiting” parent arrives 15 minutes later to have their visit. When the visit is over, the “visiting’ parent leaves and the “pick up” parent comes to get the child(ren) 15 minutes later.
Who can use the SAFE Services?
Anyone who would like assistance in exchanging their child(ren) without conflict. This could be a parent, grandparent, foster parent or any other person having rights to parenting time where contact with the other party could cause conflict. Services may be court ordered or may be voluntary. We must have both parties in agreement to use our agency.
Why are SAFE Services important?
Parents do not meet face-to-face. There is a 15 minute window between the child(ren) being dropped off and the other parent coming to the facility. This is valuable transition time for the child(ren). Children see calm, caring adults. Anxiety and stress are minimized for both adults and children.
